Streetwear brands vs. Lifestyle brands
Sorry, but you made a small rookie mistake, the guy that sent the file did not tell you where the baseline was in that line. Normally, it is treated as the centre line of the object unless otherwise indicated. So, you are explaining where the centre line might be and therefore having different results in your measurements. Finally, you were right to indicate that he had some alignment issues in his drawing, hence the possible mismatch.
Thanks for sharing
The music is too loud and f'ing irritating.
The beauty is that you don’t have to listen to it.
Aaron is an awesome human, and a brilliant identity designer, but like all of us, he has some weaker areas and strengths. I was a bit let down by the design of his book as well as the copy editing. The layout was jam packed with not enough white space and the copy was littered with errors. Even the most famous of designers are just humans like the rest of us, with assets and defects. It's really Aaron's ethos that I think makes him so popular. Being unpretentious and grateful to do what we do for a living..."moving our little mouse finger" as he puts it.
Thanks for sharing
"Learn to pave the way with Dave. Step one learn to pave." (you can have that one for free ;) as usual *thumbs up* indeed P.S. "Become masters of doing the thing" so that it becomes your thing.
we earn those 10,000 hours one hour at a time.
very true and once again the coffee guru speaks :D
thanks, man.
Remember Dave, many artists of old failed because they lack the capital to promote their work. The moment an artist/designer brings something to market, they enter a competitive environment and capital becomes pretty much the most important factor. And with creative work becoming so voluminous, capital is today more important than ever. Good luck.
Thanks for watching!
You inspire me every time you post either on RUclips or on instagram. LETS DO THHIIIS THING!!……(whispering) in silence.😊
Let's go!
I only discovered you because of Affinity. I am disappointed you don't go there anymore, but I do still like some of the recent stuff anyways
damn I hope your health just gets better, wasn't expecting to hear that. do miss the videos btw always interesting and look forward to the next one, stay strong 👊
Oh, I'm much better now. It was nasty for a bit though.
Always good to have an X-Y zero point, much like laying out the foundation of a building; line lengths or dimensions for other objects can usually be entered via a dialog box, then it's just a matter of moving/snapping the object to its location.
👍👍👍
at 9:50 it gets interesting. Awesome. Exactly I was looking for.
👍
He is undeniably a good designer in terms of work he does and he did change the industry in terms of his philosophy towards life. You said it yourself, he is kind and a nice person and he goes around preaching that. That makes him great.
I think it's a stretch to say he changed the industry. There are still plenty of tools in the design world.
I use a dual monitor set up of 27” and 19”. I still feel like I need more screen real estate. Also I’m gray haired like Dave, so me and small screens don’t get along for serious work these days. Typing this on my iPad and just wasting time this morning.
There are no bad typefaces, only bad designers. I DARE you to use Papyrus 😈
I've seen it done.
Helps a lot, Thanks!
Glad it helped!
3:08 Web search says that the most common monochromatic halftone is output in 45 degrees. While on the web, the 33 degrees came up as the angle of Masonic Freemasons' compass. There is 133 LPI (lines per inch), but it is for old magazine printing. Then there is CMYK process color separations.
👍👍👍
I searched InDesign and half way through this video I realize it's for Affinity. Thanks youtube.
It would have been better not to have to watch Kamala Harris ads
1. I don't choose the ads. 2. Upgrade to RUclips Premium. No ads-problem solved.
@@DaveConrey 3. Unsubscribe. Only selected channels are affected I’ve learned. So, when political ads appear, I click away to plenty of other great options. Problem solved!
I switched to the Affinity suite and On1 Photo Raw. I use Final Cut for video.
👍👍👍
I tried too in iPad and is very frustrating. Desktop🙌
the worst
Nice magazine mockup.
Thank you! 😊
Changing right now from InDesign to affinity publisher after 20 years. I wish I could assign all shortcuts like in adobe.
You can. In your preferences, look for the Shortcuts tab and make adjustments as you need. Not all things will crossover, but most you can change.
Wow, this is the 3rd video of yours I've watched. You have a unique style, lots of experience under the hood an your inner child is always on. I came because of some tips in Affinity Photo and stayed because of art. You've earned yourself a new, freshly ironed and folded subscriber.
Thank you
Draplin is a good desginer, not a great one. He knows how to use the software very well, he knows color and he knows how to make something "pop". Those are very important things to know in design, but they dont make you GREAT. He has the same style for everything and thats fine except for the fact that it lacks "warmth" or "soul". He can make a very cool sticker, but can he carry the weight to give a Brand a genuine identity? one that doesnt look just like all of his stickers and notebooks?
Well said!
Yes you are a safe person, many just know that about you. I pray for that person. Thank you for sharing. To this person know you are deeply loved and yes life is better with you in it.
I help where I can.
Good to know. It is maybe for those who travel a lot perhaps?
perhaps
Sir thank you for this wisdom.
You’re welcome.
I have a book of mine typed and had no clue on how to design for printing. Thank you sir.
Glad to help
what is that metal triangular thing on the wall behind you?
a drafting triangle and template.
: ) I know! I haven't seen one of those in 30 years. Long live all of us old graphic designers. I bet you have some dried up Rapidgraphs somewhere near by.Have a good one brother!
Is there a method for doing lines instead of dots?
The halftone effects do have a line feature.
link doesn't work any more.
same
Things changed. I would love to share it, but didn't back up my stuff and now it's gone.
@@DaveConrey Thanks for replying.
This video has been so helpful! Thank you very much
You're very welcome!
It's fantastic to edit text at a client's office, or discuss the latest corrections with a writer. What you did with a PDF on a tablet, or with the original file on a laptop, you can now do in an iPad, in a much more natural way.
👍👍👍
I enjoy your energy while explaining! Lovely tutorial! You remind me of Brad Colbow! :)
Thank you! 😊
Thank you!
You're welcome!
unfortunately I still need After effect for motion designs and I don't think there's a programm that do the job as good...
yeah, no real replacement for AE yet
This was the EXACT video I needed to help me decide which program to get and learn! Very well done! I appreciate the "depends on your style" approach!
Glad it was helpful!
A quick fix: .de is Germany, .dk is Denmark.
thanks
I created too many text styles within my document. How do I get rid of the ones I don't want? Thank you
Right click will bring up a dialog box and give you an option to delete, or select it from the palette and in the palette settings, you can delete.
you are the best
thank you
Trying to go from InDesign for the past 30 years publishing a magazine to converting to affinity is a challenge especially when the video doesn’t show basic steps in a slower mode. When you talk and use the mouse pointer at the same time I can’t keep up and wish I had slow motion to see it to fully understand. This video needs to be redone using the basic steps that I would need to convert my older magazine into this new software at a slower pace. Hope I am not the only one confused at times.😎
There's an option to watch at a slower speed. I struggle to work slower, honestly.
Well the title sure made me click, but this was simply great! :) Thanks for sharing. (It also made me like and subscribe.) :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Dave McKean is the last great designer.
never heard of him
@@DaveConrey then you should look him up. He designed all of The Sandman comic book covers.
Nope. Not a great designer. He is a hustler and has made a lot of stuff but none of his work is impacted or shifted the industry. Being loud doesn't make him great. Speaking truths doesn't make you great. Knowing a bunch of other people doesn't make you great. He's good because of his nostalgic appreciation for design history.
😂😂yea okay..
thanks
Are the LUTs for sale I couldn’t see them on the website
I'm lame. I deleted them, but I'm planning on putting them back up... eventually.

Your face has changed. You seem more relaxed and reserved.
legitimately tried to be a bit more chill
Hi Dave I’m a newby and getting on in years. Have you any idea if this would work on a circle as I am having trouble keeping the size of the circle a constant size all the way around.
Not sure which direction you mean, but try using a combination of Cmnd, Option , and Shift. Each provides a different result
Bluetooth keyboard and mouse what’s the problem. What’s so hard about hooking up a usb hub. I really don’t get it.
thanks
Not sure if its possible but I'm looking to do real life size work - and I want to ask, would you treat area tool in the same as obtaining diameters?
I'd have to test it, but should work.
